Why manual

Learn manual, drive anything.

A manual licence is the full ticket. It takes a little more to master, but nothing on the road is off limits once you have it.

Drive absolutely anything

Utes, vans, work vehicles and older cars. A manual licence opens up every job and every car.

Clutch control, sorted calmly

We get you smooth off the line with no stalling stress. Patient coaching, no shouting, ever.

Covers automatics too

Pass in a manual and you can legally drive automatics as well. One licence, both worlds.

Modern dual-control cars

Two sets of brakes and an accredited instructor beside you, so learning the clutch feels safe.

Free pickup, everywhere

Every lesson starts and finishes at your door, school or work, right across South East Queensland.

Logbook hours count 3x

Ten lessons with an accredited instructor log as 30 hours. Get test-ready and fill your logbook at once.

Manual or automatic?

Is manual the right choice for you?

Both get you a licence. Here's the honest comparison, so you can start with confidence.

Manual

Full licence
  • Lets you drive absolutely anything, including utes and work vehicles
  • A manual licence covers automatics too
  • Best if you already know you'll need to drive one
  • More to master, so it usually takes a few more lessons

Automatic

  • No clutch and no gears, so there's less to juggle
  • Simpler to learn, so you're often test-ready sooner
  • Covers the vast majority of cars on the road today
  • The easiest first licence, but it won't let you drive a manual

Learn manual and nothing on the road is off limits. It takes a little longer, but you'll never be caught out by a car you can't drive. Just want the quickest route to a licence? Every RAC instructor teaches both, so have a look at our automatic driving lessons.

Good to know

Manual driving lessons, answered.

Is manual harder to learn than automatic?

There's a bit more to it, mainly the clutch and gear changes, so most learners take a few more lessons than they would in an automatic. But with calm, patient coaching it clicks faster than people expect, and once it does you can drive anything.

How many manual lessons will I need?

It depends where you're starting from. Total beginners usually want around 10 lessons to get comfortable with the clutch and test-ready, learners with some practice do well on a 5-pack, and if you're nearly there a few polishing lessons can be enough. Use the estimator above for a quick steer.

Does a manual licence let me drive automatics?

Yes. A manual licence covers you for both manual and automatic cars, so it's the more flexible option. An automatic licence only covers automatics, which is the main reason some learners choose manual from the start.

Will you sort out my clutch control?

That's exactly what we do. Our instructors are patient specialists at getting learners smooth off the line without stalling stress. No shouting, no crunching gears at the lights, just steady coaching until it feels natural.

Do the lessons count toward my logbook?

Yes, and for triple. In Queensland each hour with an accredited instructor logs as three hours, up to 10 lessons, so 10 lessons add 30 hours to your logbook. Your instructor signs it off on the spot.
